Rodent Control Tips

Rodents are a year round problem, but they become especially problematic during the winter months.  A warm home with food is their number one objective and they do not discriminate.
Your home can be neat and clean, but if the opportunity is there, mice will enter and it won’t be a problem for them to seek out a food source in the form of crumbs and accessible storage areas.
There are many preventative products that will help keep mice away or capture them before they gain entrance into your home.  For example, there are ultrasonic rodent deterrent devices that repel rodents as well as rodent bait stations that you can place around your home to cut mice off before they make their way into your space.
Those are just the tip of the iceburg.  there are many rodent control solutions, and the appropriate one for you will depend on your situation, concerns, and personal preferences.
In any case, there is something for everyone out there and you can begin your search atParsons Pest Control.  We’ve been around for over 20 years.  Give us a call if you don’t know what’s best and we’ll be happy to lend you our expertise.

How to Get Rid of Mice

The last post was all about preventing mice from gaining entry into your home.  In today’s post, will focus on how to get rid of mice.
Mice are the most adaptive to humans of all rodents.  They contaminate millions of dollars worth of food each year, and have done their fair share of destruction causing electrical fires with their habitual gnawing.
As if that weren’t enough, mice carry diseases a multitude of diseases including Salmonella.  They can transfer diseases to humans in the following ways:
* By biting man.
* By infecting human food with its droppings.
* By infecting human food with its urine.
* By being eaten.
* Indirectly via the cat or the dog.
* Indirectly via the bloodsucking insects.
* Indirectly via bloodsucking mites.
* Indirectly by dying in a water supply
If you didn’t know before, now you know why it’s so important to get rid of mice fast and by any means necessary.
After taking all preventative measures to stop any additional mice from gaining entry, you have several options for eliminating mice in your home.  Each method has pros and cons, so ultimately the best choice is going to be up to you to decide.
Snap Traps are the most traditional method for catching mice.  They are cheap and easy to setup.  One of their biggest drawbacks are that they can be messy, so they are not for the faint at heart.
Glue Boards are less messy, but are unfavored by some because mice are left alive struggling and stressing until their death.  Another short coming of glue boards is that mice can escape if left undiscovered for a lengthy period of time.
Zap Traps – Zap traps deliver an electrical shock to mice killing them instantly.  They are effective but expensive compared to other methods.
Poisons – Poisons are effective in killing mice, but they are the least desired because mice can die in your walls leaving a stinch that is not only unpleasant, but that can attract other pests.  If you do go the poison route, make sure to use bait stations to prevent children and unintended animals from accessing the poison.
Now you have some great methods to get rid of mice.  Choose one that you feel most comfortable with, but don’t be afraid to switch up if you see  that mice start to adapt and evade their extermination.
You will find all the products discussed in the Rodent category over at Parsons Pest Control.  If you need some assistance, don’t be afraid to give us a call at 1-888-848-6690.

Ethical Way To Get Rid of Mice

Mice may be cute and furry, but they make horrible pets. In fact they carry disease. And while snap traps, glue traps and poison are very effective. Some of us might not want to deal with the icky mess that goes along with killing a mouse.
So what are the alternatives to getting rid of mice without necessarily killing them?
Here is what you will need:
  • Peppermint oil
  • Cotton balls
  • Peanut butter
  • Steel wool
  • 5 gallon bucket
  • 3 bricks or brick shaped objects
First you are going to want to get rid of what is attracting the mice to your house. Make sure you get rid of any open or uncovered food. Make sure you clean your countertops very well and sweep and mop your floors.
Next we want to repel the mice. For this you will need to pour a generous amount of peppermint oil on the cotton balls and place them in the middle of the path where you have seen mouse activity. Make sure you place a cotton ball in every area that is affected. Peppermint is simply too strong for their noises.
Next we want to prevent the mice from reentering the home. The best way to do this is to block all entry point (waterlines, gas lines, electricity lines). The most effective way to do this is to place steel wool in all of the empty spaces.
Ok so now I am going to tell you how to build a friendly trap if you happen to still have mice. Place the 5 gallon bucket in the high traffic mouse area, place peanut butter on the inside rim of the bucket. Place your bricks vertically (this will act as stairs for the mice). Once the mice have been trapped you can safely let them go in whatever natural environment you think is right for them.
If that’s too much work for you.  You can always pay a visit to Parsons Pest Control, where you will find some very effective mice control products.

Do-It-Yourself Tips to Protect Your Home from Pests

Everyone has to deal with pests and they are looking for a safe and eco friendly way to eliminate those pests instead of the alternative of toxic pesticides.
Parson Pest Control of Dallas offers the following tips that you can do to keep pests away:
-Check all doors leading outside. If you can see light coming in from around the door, a bug can crawl in. Install door sweeps or thresholds to block bugs from entering.
-Check for openings around all pipes, cable and phone lines entering the house.  A favorite nesting ground for ants and wasps.
-Install hardware cloth on all vents in the attic, roof and crawl spaces.  This prevents rodents and insects from entering.
-Continuously knock down spider webs with a broom.  Spiders won’t stick around where they are constantly being harassed.
-Cut back branches on trees that hang over or touch your home.  Ants use limbs to travel inside you home.
Once following these tips and you feel like you still want to do more to prevent pests from entering your home, visit Parsons online Do-It-Yourself Pest Control store for natural, eco friendly products that are affordable and efficient.
