Natural Insect Repellents instead of DEET

Most insect repellents on the market today contain a chemical called DEET.  People should avoid using products with DEET because of the potential for negative health effects. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that DEET is safe to use if it is applied only in amounts necessary to cover the skin and clothing, and that it should never be used on open or irritated skin.  Overuse of DEET can cause skin irritation, dizziness, disorientation, and in extreme cases, seizures or death. The alternative is to use a natural insect repellent.
Natural insect repellents are safe and virtually without any side effects. The only drawback is they don’t last as long as repellents containing DEET therefore it would have to be applied more often.  Listed below are a few natural mosquito repellents.
*Lemon & Eucalyptus was found that products containing both lemon and  eucalyptus provided very good protection against mosquitoes, in some cases more protection than in DEET products.
*Citronella, a well known insect repellent is used to make sprays, lotions and candles.
*Cedarwood Oil, extracted from cedar wood trees has been used for centuries to drive away mosquitoes and other insects. You can find Natures Defender Spritzer & Cedarcide Repellent Lotion containing cedar oil at our online Do-It-Yourself-Pest-Control store.
